Particle aggregation with simultaneous surface growth.

چکیده
Particle aggregation with simultaneous surface growth was modeled using a dynamic Monte Carlo method. The Monte Carlo algorithm begins in the particle inception zone and constructs aggregates via ensemble-averaged collisions between spheres and deposition of gaseous species on the sphere surfaces. Simulations were conducted using four scenarios. The first, referred to as scenario 0, is used as a benchmark and simulates aggregation in the absence of surface growth. Scenario 1 forces all balls to grow at a uniform rate while scenario 2 only permits them to grow once they have collided and stuck to each other. The last one is a test scenario constructed to confirm conclusions drawn from scenarios 0-2. The transition between the coalescent and the fully developed fractal aggregation regimes is investigated using shape descriptors to quantify particle geometry. They are used to define the transition between the coalescent and fractal growth regimes. The simulations demonstrate that the morphology of aggregating particles is intimately related to both the surface deposition and particle nucleation rates.

Monte-carlo Simulation of Soot Aggregation with Simultaneous Surface Growth — Why Primary Particles Appear Spherical
Soot aggregation with simultaneous surface growth was modeled using a dynamic Monte-Carlo method. Simulations were performed in the environment of a 10 bar laminar premixed flame of ethylene. The Monte-Carlo algorithm begins in the particle inception zone and constructs soot particles via ensemble-averaged collisions between small spheres and deposition of gaseous species on the sphere surfaces...
متن کاملDynamic feedback in an aggregation-disaggregation model.
We study an aggregation-disaggregation model which is relevant to biological processes such as the growth of senile plaques in Alzheimer disease. In this model, during the aggregation each deposited particle has a probability of producing a new particle in its vicinity, while during disaggregation the particles are anihilated randomly. The model is held in a dynamic equilibrium by a feedback me...
متن کاملCompetitive particle growth at different conditions of oligo-micelle formation in hydro-alcoholic solution of anionic double-chain emulsifier via batch emulsion polymerization of vinyl chloride
The condition of oligo-micelle formation of sodium di-isodecyl sulfosuccinate (SDIDS) emulsifier in hydroalcoholic solutions is used to study particle formation of vinyl chloride emulsion polymerization in a batch reactor. The change on micellization behavior was investigated by critical micelle concentration (CMC) and zeta potential parameters. To detect the occurrence of secondary nucleation ...
متن کاملVolcanic particle aggregation in explosive eruption columns. Part II: Numerical experiments
The goal of this paper is to determine the parameters that control the aggregation efficiency and the growth rate of volcanic particles within the eruption column. Numerical experiments are performed with the plume model ATHAM (Active Tracer High resolution Atmospheric Model). In this study we employ the parameterizations described in a companion paper (this issue). The presence of hydrometeors...
متن کاملNumerical solution of population balance equations for nucleation, growth and aggregation processes
This article focuses on the derivation of numerical schemes for solving population balance models (PBMs) with simultaneous nucleation, growth nd aggregation processes. Two numerical methods are proposed for this purpose. The first method combines a method of characteristics (MOC) or growth process with a finite volume scheme (FVS) for aggregation process. For handling nucleation terms, a cell o...
